Croeso cynnes iawn #1 | All-Weather | Welsh Welcome Mat

Croeso cynnes iawn — pronounced KROY-so KUN-ess YAWN — means "a very warm welcome" in Welsh, with iawn serving as the intensifier that elevates a warm greeting into something truly heartfelt. It is one of the most emphatic expressions of hospitality in one of Europe’s oldest living languages. Welsh is a Brythonic Celtic language with roots stretching back over 1,500 years, descended from the tongue of the ancient Britons. It survived the Acts of Union of 1536 and 1543, which sought to remove it from public and legal life, and the notorious 19th-century Welsh Not — a wooden token hung around the neck of any child caught speaking Welsh at school. Today, Welsh is co-official across Wales and spoken by approximately 900,000 people. Phrases like Croeso cynnes iawn are a living reminder that the language — and the warmth it carries — was never lost.

This all-weather doormat features Croeso cynnes iawn in a bold, characterful design that brings the very warmest of Welsh greetings to any front door. Looking for more Welsh-themed doormats?
