Northern Elephant Seal Peeking Doormat #2 | Seal Welcome Mat

The Northern Elephant Seal (Mirounga angustirostris) gets its memorable name from the large, trunk-like nose developed by adult males. That inflatable nose helps resonate their calls during the winter breeding season, when males challenge one another. Found in the eastern and central North Pacific, these seals range as far north as Alaska and breed mainly on islands off California and Baja California, Mexico. Once thought extinct after nineteenth-century commercial sealing, the species recovered from a small surviving population in Mexico.

The Northern Elephant Seal Peeking Doormat #2 features a male seal peeking from the left edge, with a long, trunk-like nose, large eyes, spreading whiskers and finely drawn skin folds. His detailed black portrait sits inside a black rectangular border on natural coir, leaving open space to the right. Crafted from natural coir fibre (coconut husk), this mat effectively traps dirt and debris at the door. The sturdy non-slip rubber backing keeps it securely in place. Natural coir is best suited for covered or sheltered entryways, not recommended for fully exposed outdoor use.

A thoughtful housewarming or birthday gift for a seal lover, marine wildlife enthusiast or someone who feels at home by the coast, this distinctive ocean traveller brings a little Pacific character to the doorstep.
