Pine Marten Doormat #1 | All-Weather | Marten Cat Welcome Mat

The Pine Marten — also known as the Marten Cat, Piney, Piney Marten, Marten, Tree Marten, Tree Cat, Sweet Marten, Pine Cat, Pine Weasel, Wood Marten, Forest Marten, and by its scientific name Martes martes — is one of Britain and Ireland’s most elusive and captivating woodland mammals. A member of the mustelid family, the Pine Marten has inhabited the forests of Europe for thousands of years, with fossil records dating back to the Pleistocene era. Once widespread across the British Isles, intensive hunting for its prized chestnut-brown fur and widespread deforestation drove the species to near-extinction in England and Wales by the early twentieth century. Today, thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, Pine Marten populations are slowly recovering — a symbol of wild, thriving woodland returning to the landscape. With its rich chestnut fur, distinctive creamy-yellow bib, and bright, curious eyes, this nimble climber moves through ancient forests with extraordinary agility, equally at home in the treetops as on the forest floor.
