Virginia Opossum Peeking Doormat #1 | Peeking Opossum Welcome Mat

The Virginia Opossum, known scientifically as Didelphis virginiana and often affectionately called a possum, is the only marsupial found north of Mexico. This mostly nocturnal neighbour sets out around dusk, exploring for food while much of the world settles down for the night. Its grasping tail and opposable hind toes make it an accomplished climber, well equipped for life among branches. Young opossums can also respond to a fright by becoming motionless, the remarkable behaviour behind the phrase “playing possum.”

This Virginia Opossum Peeking Doormat #1 features an opossum peeking from the edge on the left side, perched on stacked logs with a curled tail, rounded ears, pointed muzzle and fine whiskers, alongside small leafy sprigs inside a black rectangular border. Crafted from natural coir fibre (coconut husk), this mat effectively traps dirt and debris at the door. The sturdy non-slip rubber backing keeps it securely in place. Natural coir is best suited for covered or sheltered entryways, not recommended for fully exposed outdoor use.

A thoughtful gift for Virginia Opossum lovers, possum enthusiasts and nature admirers, this whiskered woodland visitor brings character to every homecoming.
